Shuhua is the Taiwanese sub-vocalist, visual, and maknae of I-DLE, the self-producing K-pop girl group under Cube Entertainment. Born Yeh Shuhua on January 6, 2000, in Taoyuan, Taiwan, she is of mixed Hakka and Indigenous Atayal heritage and originally dreamed of becoming an actress before an audition she attended almost by accident changed the course of her life. She debuted with (G)I-DLE on May 2, 2018, through the EP “I Am” and its single “Latata,” quickly becoming known for her elegant visuals, deep husky vocal tone, and graceful stage presence. As the group's maknae, Shuhua overcame an early language barrier to grow steadily into more prominent vocal parts, center positions, and complex choreography. She won a bronze medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the 2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships and has since branched into acting cameos, brand ambassadorships, and variety television across both South Korea and Taiwan, including being named tourism ambassador for her hometown of Taoyuan in 2025. Fluent in Mandarin and Korean with strong English and Japanese skills, Shuhua is celebrated by fans for her striking beauty, her surprisingly playful “4D” personality off-camera, and her steady growth as one of I-DLE's most distinctive performers.
Story

Biography

Who Is Shuhua?

Shuhua, born Yeh Shuhua (葉舒華, Korean: 유수화) on January 6, 2000, in Yangmei, Taoyuan, Taiwan, is a Taiwanese singer and dancer who serves as the sub-vocalist, visual, and maknae of the South Korean girl group I-DLE under Cube Entertainment. Of mixed Hakka and Atayal (Indigenous Taiwanese) heritage, she is celebrated for her elegant visuals, versatile vocal tone, and quietly magnetic stage presence.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Shuhua grew up in Taoyuan as the second of three daughters and originally dreamed of becoming an actress after watching dramas and imagining herself performing for an audience. She attended Hwa Kang Arts School in Taipei, specializing in theater, and only picked up dancing after joining Cube Entertainment. In 2016, she attended a Cube Star World Audition in Taiwan simply to accompany friends who wanted to try out — and ended up being the one who passed. At 16, she moved to South Korea alone to begin training, a transition made especially difficult by the language barrier; she has said learning Korean was the hardest part of her trainee years.

Debut with I-DLE

Shuhua debuted with (G)I-DLE on May 2, 2018, with the EP I Am and its lead single “Latata,” introducing herself at the group’s debut showcase as its “visual maknae.” In her early years with the group, she was largely responsible for onomatopoeia and short lines due to her ongoing efforts with Korean pronunciation, but her role has expanded steadily, and she has since taken on center positions, more demanding choreography, and growing vocal parts.

Beyond the Group

Shuhua has built her own presence through acting cameos, variety television, and brand ambassadorships, including campaigns for Colorgram, Robinmay, and D+AF. She won a bronze medal in rhythmic gymnastics at the 2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships and, in October 2025, was appointed tourism ambassador for her hometown of Taoyuan, Taiwan. Fluent in Mandarin and Korean with strong English and Japanese skills, Shuhua remains one of I-DLE’s most quietly beloved members, known equally for her striking visuals and her unexpectedly bold, “4D” personality behind the scenes.
