UNIS’s Yunha: From Child Model to Main Dancer of K-Pop’s Rising Rookies

Yunha, born Bang Yunha on February 28, 2009, is the main dancer, lead vocalist, and rapper of the multinational K-pop girl group UNIS. A Korean idol with years of pre-debut experience under her belt, Yunha built an impressively varied résumé long before she ever stepped onto the Universe Ticket stage — modeling for kids’ fashion brands, training with JYP Entertainment, and even performing in a stage play at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Her path to UNIS wasn’t a quick one. Yunha trained under multiple companies, including a stint with ON1 Entertainment’s pre-debut group Kids Planet, before she found her true home competing on SBS’s global survival show Universe Ticket. There, she consistently stood out as one of the strongest all-around performers, ultimately finishing in 2nd place and earning the coveted Unicorn Ticket — a signal of just how much potential she showed throughout the competition.

On March 27, 2024, Yunha officially debuted alongside seven other members as part of UNIS under F&F Entertainment, contributing her dance skills, vocals, and rapping to the group’s title track “Super Woman” from their first EP “We Unis.” Just a month later, in April 2024, she was individually honored as an Idol Rookie of the Month, a testament to how quickly she made an impression on fans and industry watchers alike.

Since then, Yunha has been a key part of every UNIS release, from “CURIOUS” to “SWICY” and the group’s expansion into Japan with “MoshiMoshi♡.” Fans often highlight her dynamic dancing and her ability to shift effortlessly between rapping and singing on stage.

Off stage, Yunha is affectionately nicknamed Bbang-ahji (“puppy”) by fans, and she’s open about her love of bread, chocolate chip cookies, and cozy hobbies like knitting. She counts Dua Lipa among her biggest inspirations, crediting the song “New Rules” as the spark that made her want to become a singer in the first place.
