Geonwoo of ALPHA DRIVE ONE: Biography

ALPHA DRIVE ONE‘s Geonwoo (born Kim Geonwoo, 김건우) is a South Korean singer and idol trainee-turned-K-pop idol who earned his spot in the eight-member WakeOne project group through Mnet’s survival show Boys II Planet. Ranked fourth overall in the finale with over 4.8 million votes, Geonwoo brought years of underrated trainee experience and a distinctly soft, warm vocal tone to the group’s debut lineup.

Born on April 11, 2003, in Jeonju, South Korea, Geonwoo is best known among fans for his perfect pitch, his classical music background (he played viola in his middle school orchestra), and his skill on the piano. Before joining ALPHA DRIVE ONE, he trained for years across several agencies, including Source Music, CUBE Entertainment, and Bill Entertainment, accumulating roughly four years of total training. He entered Boys II Planet as an independent trainee after his short stint with WakeOne ended by mutual agreement.

Geonwoo debuted with ALPHA DRIVE ONE on January 12, 2026, through the group’s first mini album Euphoria, led by the single “Freak Alarm.” The release was a commercial success, and the group quickly picked up its first music show trophy in late January. However, on April 8, 2026, WakeOne announced that Geonwoo would step back from all group activities to reflect after a hot-mic controversy from a pre-debut variety recording. As a result, ALPHA DRIVE ONE has continued promotions as a seven-member lineup for the time being, with fans and the agency awaiting further updates on his return.

Outside of music, Geonwoo is multilingual, speaking Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese, and he is currently continuing his education in applied/practical music at Seoul Cyber University. His hobbies include baseball, soccer, traveling, and watching classical performances — interests that reflect both his disciplined training background and his easygoing personality off stage.
