Who Is Sanghyeon?

Sanghyeon (상현), born Chung Sanghyeon (정상현) on September 19, 2007, in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, is a South Korean rapper, singer, and actor who serves as the maknae (youngest member) of the global project boy group ALPHA DRIVE ONE (ALD1) under WAKEONE Entertainment. With a bright, puppy-like visual and a warm, sociable personality, Sanghyeon has quickly become a fan favorite within ALD1’s fandom, ALLYZ.

Early Life and Time Abroad

Sanghyeon grew up in Suwon before his family relocated to the Philippines, where he lived for about five years during his early elementary school years. That period abroad, during which he went by the English name Scott, gave him fluent English on top of his native Korean, a skill he later put to use during his idol survival show appearances. He originally trained to become an actor and even appeared as a child on the KBS variety show “ZooZoo Club.”

Trainee Years and Boys II Planet

Before joining ALPHA DRIVE ONE, Sanghyeon trained under Pledis Entertainment and later ABYSS Company, accumulating about two years and seven months of training. He was revealed as a contestant on “Boys II Planet” on June 9, 2025, after being selected by fellow trainees as a Visual Poster. Fans immediately responded to his gentle, expressive visuals and his energetic, upbeat presence on stage. On September 25, 2025, during the show’s live finale, Sanghyeon placed 7th overall, earning his spot as the maknae of the newly formed ALPHA DRIVE ONE.

Debut and Rise with ALPHA DRIVE ONE

After his stage name was finalized as Sanghyeon in October 2025, he promoted the pre-debut single “Formula” before ALD1’s official debut on January 12, 2026, with the mini album “Euphoria.” The lead single “Freak Alarm” propelled the rookie group to a historic triple crown, sweeping Korea’s three major terrestrial broadcast music shows, an achievement no boy group had managed since Wanna One in 2017. Within the group, Sanghyeon contributes both rap and vocals, and he is also known for his affection for animals, especially his skill training cats.

Personality and Fan Appeal

Nicknamed “Swicy” by fans for combining sweetness and spice, Sanghyeon describes himself as both cute and chic, with an “unexpected charm.” He is a self-described social butterfly who says he can grow close with almost anyone quickly, and he lists collecting figures and writing rap lyrics among his hobbies. He looks up to NCT’s Mark and ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo as role models, and he continues studying Japanese on top of his fluent Korean and English.
