Heechan (DKB): Biography & Profile of Brave Entertainment’s Passionate Dancer

Heechan is a South Korean idol, dancer, and rapper best known as a member of the eight-member boy group DKB (다크비), short for “Dark Brown Eyes,” under Brave Entertainment. Born Yang Hee-chan on July 31, 1999, in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, Heechan built his reputation as one of K-pop’s most underrated choreographers, earning the nickname “Passionate Guy” for the energy he brings both on stage and off.

Before joining DKB, Heechan first appeared in the public eye as a contestant on the 2016 Mnet survival show BOYS24, where he competed as part of Unit Red before being eliminated. He kept training and was announced as the fourth member revealed for DKB on November 7, 2019, officially debuting with the group on February 3, 2020, through the mini album “Youth” and its title track “Sorry Mama.”

As DKB’s lead dancer, lead rapper, and vocalist, Heechan has been the creative force behind several of the group’s most memorable stages. He is credited with choreographing DKB’s solo performance pieces “Watch Me Burn” and “Dead Man Walking” during the group’s world tour, showcasing a growing talent for movement direction alongside his performance skills. In 2025, Heechan took a step back from regular DKB promotions. On May 9, 2025, Brave Entertainment announced that Heechan, along with fellow member Harry-June, would go on a temporary hiatus for personal reasons. It was later revealed that both members were taking part in Mnet’s new idol survival program Boys II Planet, where Heechan ultimately placed 57th — an experience that let him reconnect with fans in a new format while DKB continued its own activities, including the group’s ninth mini album “Emotion” later that year.

Outside of performing, Heechan enjoys playing the piano, exercising, and dancing in his free time, and he’s known among fans for his playful love of Spider-Man. Longtime K-pop fans will also recognize him as a close friend of ATEEZ’s Wooyoung, having attended the same school before their respective debuts. With his blend of dependable dance skills, warm energy, and resilience through DKB’s ups and downs, Heechan remains one of the most fan-loved members of the group’s lineup.
