Who Is BOBBY of iKON?

BOBBY, born Kim Ji-won on December 21, 1995, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer best known as the main rapper of the boy group iKON. Signed to 143 Entertainment, BOBBY has built a reputation as one of K-pop’s most respected rapper-producers, thanks to his sharp delivery and heavy involvement in writing and composing tracks for both iKON and his own solo catalog.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Born in Seoul, BOBBY moved with his family to Fairfax, Virginia, in the United States, where he spent part of his childhood before returning to South Korea to pursue music. He was signed by YG Entertainment as a trainee and first used the stage name Bobby, inspired by his idol Bob Marley, while competing on the 2013 survival show “WIN: Who Is Next” as a member of Team B.

Show Me the Money 3 and iKON Debut

BOBBY rose to national attention in 2014 after winning Mnet’s rap competition show “Show Me the Money 3” under Team Illionaire, mentored by Dok2 and The Quiett. He went on to debut as iKON’s main rapper on September 15, 2015, with the group’s first release, “Welcome Back.” iKON quickly rose to prominence with hits like “My Type” and later “Love Scenario,” and BOBBY became a key contributor to the group’s songwriting and production credits.

Solo Career and MOBB

In 2016, BOBBY teamed up with Winner’s Mino to form the hip-hop duo MOBB, releasing the EP “The MOBB.” He launched his solo career in earnest with his debut studio album “Love and Fall” in 2017, which he wrote, composed, and produced almost entirely himself. He followed this with “Lucky Man” in 2021 and, after iKON’s move to 143 Entertainment, released the single album “S.i.R,” the EP “Robert,” and the studio album “Sir.Robert” in 2023 and 2024.

Personal Life

BOBBY is known for his laid-back, easygoing personality off stage, along with hobbies like playing guitar, drums, and piano, and shooting hoops on the basketball court. In August 2021, he announced his marriage and became a father the following month, making him the first married member of iKON. He began his mandatory military service on May 21, 2024.
