Who Is DK from iKON?

DK (디케이), born Kim Donghyuk (김동혁), is the main dancer and sub-vocalist of the South Korean boy group iKON, currently under 143 Entertainment. Praised for his sharp choreography, wide vocal range, and warm personality, DK has grown into one of iKON’s most versatile all-rounders, contributing not only as a performer but also as a songwriter, producer, and choreographer.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Born on January 3, 1997, in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, DK was an academically gifted student and once served as his class’s student body president, leading peers to question why he chose to pursue idol training. He studied for a period as an exchange student in Atlanta, Georgia, which gave him fluent English skills he still uses in interviews today. DK won first place in JYP Entertainment’s trainee audition in March 2012 before ultimately signing with YG Entertainment in November 2012, becoming the final member added to Team B.

Debut and Rise with iKON

DK debuted with iKON on September 15, 2015. Known for his emotive, high-note vocals and precise dancing, he became a key contributor to the group’s self-composed discography, working alongside member Bobby as one of iKON’s primary in-house producers since around 2020. His growth as a songwriter culminated in tracks like “Follow the Wind Called You” from the EP I Decide.

Solo Career

DK released his first solo song, “Kiss Me,” on iKON’s 2023 album Take Off. He then made his official solo debut on February 15, 2024, with the full-length album Nakseo[戀], on which he was credited for the lyrics, composition, and arrangement of every track — showcasing his identity as a complete artist beyond the group. He later released the digital single “Umbrella” in June 2024, with a Japanese version following in August.

Personal Life and Interests

Outside of music, DK is known among fans and members as a fashionista with a distinct sense of style, and in 2022 he walked the runway in New York as a model for the Korean brand UL:KIN, later releasing a capsule collection called “iKonic” in collaboration with the label. He enjoys reading and writing prose, plays piano, and has a close bond with fellow member Jay, with the two often praised for their shared warmth and aegyo.
