Who Is Jaehyun? Meet NCT 127’s Vocal Powerhouse
Jaehyun (재현), legally known as Jeong Yun-o (정윤오) and born Jeong Jae-hyun, is a South Korean singer and actor under SM Entertainment. You probably know him best as a main vocalist of the massive K-pop boy group NCT, and more specifically its Seoul-based unit NCT 127 and the fixed sub-unit NCT DoJaeJung. Since his April 2016 debut, he’s built a reputation as one of the group’s true all-rounders — a warm baritone vocalist, a sharp dancer, and a capable rapper, all wrapped up in the kind of visual that’s landed him global fashion campaigns.
Early Life and the Road to SM Entertainment
Born on February 14, 1997, in Seocho District, Seoul, Jaehyun spent a chunk of his childhood in Connecticut, USA — from age five to ten — which is exactly why his English is so effortless today. He came back to Korea, attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul, and along the way picked up a black belt in Taekwondo. Street-cast by SM Entertainment in 2012, he joined the pre-debut SM Rookies program in December 2013 and spent the next few years training before his big break.
Debut, NCT 127, and Becoming a Fan Favorite
Jaehyun officially debuted in April 2016 as part of the rotational unit NCT U, then joined NCT 127 that same July with their first EP. From hosting the radio show NCT Night Night to co-hosting Inkigayo for over a year, he quickly became one of NCT’s most recognizable faces. In 2023, he teamed up with fellow members Doyoung and Jungwoo to form NCT DoJaeJung, releasing the EP Perfume.
Solo Career and Acting
In August 2024, Jaehyun stepped out as a soloist with his debut studio album J, led by the single “Smoke” — which made him the first NCT soloist to win a music show trophy. He’s also branched into acting, starring in the drama Dear.M and the mystery thriller You Will Die in 6 Hours. Off stage, he’s a global ambassador for Prada, recognized as one of the most influential Korean fashion ambassadors around.
