Jungwoo (정우), born Kim Jung-woo (김정우), is a South Korean singer under SM Entertainment and a core member of the K-pop group NCT, its Seoul-based sub-unit NCT 127, and the fixed unit NCT DoJaeJung. Known for his smooth lead vocals, easy stage presence, and famously soft heart, Jungwoo has grown from a quiet trainee into one of NCT’s most beloved idols.
From Gunpo to SM Entertainment
Born on February 19, 1998, in Sanbon-dong, Gunpo, Jungwoo grew up in nearby Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do. He studied computer applied machinery at Gimpo Jeil Technical High School — an unusual academic path for an idol — before passing SM’s famously tough “Saturday Audition” in 2014. He trained for years as part of SM Rookies, quietly building his skills before his 2018 debut.
Joining NCT and NCT 127
