Who Is Wooyoung?

Wooyoung is a South Korean singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor, best known as the Main Dancer and Lead Vocalist of the iconic boy group 2PM under JYP Entertainment. Born Jang Woo-young on April 30, 1989, in Busan, he has built a career spanning K-pop, J-pop, television, and acting over nearly two decades.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Growing up in Busan, Wooyoung fell in love with dancing at a young age, even though his father initially disapproved. Determined to chase his dream, he secretly practiced and uploaded self-filmed dance clips online, which helped him win first place at JYP Entertainment’s very first open audition in 2007. That victory launched his path into JYP’s rigorous trainee system and, eventually, into 2PM.

Debut With 2PM

Wooyoung debuted alongside his five bandmates on September 4, 2008, with the single album “Hottest Time of the Day.” Known for his powerful choreography and boyish charm, he quickly became a fan favorite, later co-hosting the popular music show “Inkigayo” and expanding into acting with the hit drama “Dream High.”

Solo Career and Beyond

Beyond 2PM, Wooyoung has carved out a thriving solo career in both Korea and Japan, releasing multiple EPs, singles, and holding numerous solo tours, including sold-out shows at Nippon Budokan. He has also become a familiar face on Korean variety television, appearing as a host, judge, and main cast member on shows like “Beat Coin,” “Street Man Fighter,” and Netflix’s “Screwballs.” Today, Wooyoung continues to balance music, television, and his enduring bond with 2PM and HOTTEST, the group’s devoted fandom.
