She studied tourism at Hanyang Women’s University before training and debuting as Mamamoo’s leader and main vocalist alongside Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa in the mini album Hello.
Solo Career and Solar Emotion
Long before her official solo debut, Solar built a devoted following through her Solar Emotion project, a long-running series of cover releases reinterpreting Korean ballads. She made her official solo debut in April 2020 with the single “Spit It Out,” followed by the EPs 容: Face (2022) and Colours (2024). In 2022, she and Moonbyul formed Mamamoo’s first official subunit, Mamamoo+.

She expanded into musical theatre with lead roles in Mata Hari, Notre-Dame de Paris, and Sugar, and made her film debut in the 2025 horror film The Cursed. In recent years she has also expanded into the Chinese-language market, releasing Mandarin singles and holding concerts and fan meetings across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China.
