Wheein

Wheein, born Jung Whee-in, is a vocalist of the South Korean girl group Mamamoo, known for her breathy, distinctive tone and versatility across genres from R&B to ballads. She debuted with the group in June 2014 under RBW and has since built a well-regarded solo career of her own.

Early Life and Debut

Wheein was born on April 17, 1995, in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, South Korea. Before joining Mamamoo, she trained under MBK Entertainment and briefly attempted to debut in a separate project with fellow future member Moonbyul. She went on to debut as one of Mamamoo’s vocalists with the group’s first EP, Hello.

Solo Career

Wheein made her solo debut in April 2018 with the digital single “Easy,” followed by “Magnolia,” and the single album Soar in 2019, which reached the top five of the Gaon Album Chart. She released her first solo EP, Redd, in April 2021, led by the single “Water Color.” In 2021, she parted ways with RBW as a solo agency while continuing to promote with Mamamoo, later signing with THE L1VE.

Variety and Collaborations

Wheein has appeared on variety programs such as “King of Mask Singer,” performing as “Half Moon,” and “Secret Unnie.” She has also lent her voice to numerous collaborations and features, including chart-topping duets, and is known for her close friendship with groupmate Hwasa, whom she has known since middle school.
