Chungha

Kim Chung-ha, promoting simply as Chungha, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and dancer widely regarded as one of K-pop’s most consistent solo performers. Born Kim Chan-mi on February 9, 1996, in Seoul, she spent part of her childhood in Dallas, Texas, which left her fluent in both Korean and English.

Chungha first became known nationwide in 2016 as a contestant on Produce 101, finishing in 4th place and debuting with the project girl group I.O.I. While many of her fellow I.O.I members went on to join other groups, Chungha took a different path: she launched a solo career in June 2017 with the mini album Hands on Me, led by the single “Why Don’t You Know.”

From there, Chungha built one of the most respected solo discographies in the industry, delivering back-to-back hits such as “Roller Coaster,” “Gotta Go,” “Snapping,” “Stay Tonight,” and “Play.” Her performance-driven, dance-heavy style earned her comparisons to some of K-pop’s top all-around performers and multiple “Artist of the Year” style recognitions along the way, including the Best Next Artist honor at the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

In 2023, after seven years with MNH Entertainment, Chungha’s contract concluded, and she signed with MORE VISION, the label founded by former 2PM member Jay Park, later that year. She has continued releasing music and performing at major festivals, including a Waterbomb Seoul appearance in 2024, and took on a radio hosting role on KBS CoolFM.

Known for her powerful choreography, warm personality, and reliability as a performer, Chungha remains one of the defining solo artists to emerge from the original Produce 101 generation, continuously proving that idols who go solo can carve out a lasting, independent legacy in the industry.
