Hyunsik

Hyunsik, born Im Hyun-sik (임현식) on March 7, 1992, is a South Korean singer-songwriter, composer, and the lead vocalist of the K-pop boy group BtoB. Since debuting in 2012 under Cube Entertainment, he’s built a reputation as one of the most musically involved idols in his generation, writing and producing tracks not just for himself but for the whole group.

Hyunsik grew up in Seoul in a musical household — his father, Im Jiehoon, is a well-known Korean folk singer, and that background clearly rubbed off on him. He studied Practical Music at Howon University alongside groupmate Lee Chang-sub, then went on to earn a master’s degree in Practical Music from Joongbu University. That kind of formal training shows up in his songwriting credits: he helped pen BtoB favorites like “Star,” “Killing Me,” and “I’ll Be Your Man (Pray).”

He debuted with BtoB on March 21, 2012, performing as the group’s lead singer and dancer on the promotional single “Insane.” In September 2016, he became a founding member of BtoB Blue, the group’s vocal-focused sub-unit, releasing “Stand By Me” alongside Eunkwang, Changsub, and Sungjae.

Hyunsik’s solo career kicked off properly in October 2019 with his debut mini album Rendez-vous, on which he wrote, composed, and arranged every track himself. His first solo concert, also titled “Rendez-vous,” sold out in just four minutes. After completing his mandatory military service (May 2020 – November 2021), he returned to music, hosted Naver Now’s “Late Night Studio,” and became a full member of KOMCA in 2022.

When BtoB’s contract with Cube Entertainment ended in November 2023, Hyunsik and his groupmates launched their own label, BtoB Company, in February 2024. That same year he released his second mini album, The Young Man and the Deep Sea, an ambitious project that even inspired a companion documentary film shot in Palau, which premiered at the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival.

Known for his warm, emotive vocal tone and his hands-on approach to songwriting, Hyunsik remains one of BtoB’s creative anchors — equally comfortable fronting a ballad, producing a track, or hosting a late-night radio show for fans.
