1CHU is a South Korean pop act that began life as a sub-unit before growing into its own independent story. The name 원츄 comes from the Korean phrase for "I like you," setting the tone for the group's warm, approachable concept from day one. Formed under Moai Entertainment as the first sub-unit of girl group HeyGirls, the duo of Chaerin and Sulhee debuted on July 12, 2022, with the digital single "Oasis," a refreshing future-bass track filmed at the beach that immediately signaled a summery, feel-good identity.

Biography & History

1CHU (원츄) is a South Korean pop act under Moai Entertainment, originally formed as the first sub-unit of the girl group HeyGirls. The duo – Chaerin and Sulhee – debuted on July 12, 2022 with the bright, summery digital single “Oasis,” which introduced the pair’s future-bass sound and beach-ready visuals to K-pop fans looking for something outside the usual big-label formula.

After HeyGirls officially disbanded on December 26, 2023, 1CHU stepped out from under its parent group’s shadow and became a fully independent act. The duo kept up a steady stream of digital singles, including “Siren” (2023), “Punk Hot” (2024), “It Was You” (2024), and “Sagwija (Date With Me)” (2024), building a small but devoted fandom known as Chuing. Both members also branched out into the Korean-Japanese project group Puzzle, showcasing their versatility beyond the 1CHU name.

In February 2025, Sulhee’s contract with Moai Entertainment expired, and she departed the agency along with her spot in 1CHU, Puzzle, and the then-upcoming group IWU. That left Chaerin as the sole remaining member, transforming 1CHU from a duo into a solo project while keeping the group’s name and identity intact. Despite the lineup change, 1CHU’s discography remains a snapshot of a group unafraid to experiment with sound, from breezy summer pop to punk-tinged rock influences, carving out a distinct niche among nugu (under-the-radar) K-pop acts.

“We may be small, but our sound speaks for itself - that's 1CHU.”

Sulhee is also a singer-songwriter, having contributed writing and producing credits to other projects.
1CHU released its second digital single, "Siren," on April 10, 2023.
In August 2023, both 1CHU members joined the Korean-Japanese project group Puzzle.

Sulhee's departure meant she also exited 1CHU, Puzzle, and the IWU lineup all at once.
Following Sulhee's exit, 1CHU became a one-member act with Chaerin as its sole performer.
Despite the lineup change, Moai Entertainment kept the 1CHU name active rather than disbanding it.
1CHU's official fandom name is Chuing (츄잉), a playful nod to the group's "I like you" concept.
The group is considered a "nugu," or under-the-radar act, by much of the wider K-pop fan community.
1CHU has never won a music show trophy or major end-of-year award to date.
Despite modest commercial numbers, 1CHU's YouTube channel has amassed over a million combined views across its releases.
1CHU's songs cover a wide stylistic range, from breezy summer pop to punk-rock-leaning tracks.
The group has no official lightstick, unlike many larger K-pop acts.
1CHU has never released a physical album, focusing entirely on digital single releases.
Fans often cite 1CHU as an example of how small agencies keep experimenting with idol concepts outside the mainstream.
1CHU's story — from sub-unit, to independent duo, to solo act — is one of the more unusual paths in modern K-pop.
