Biography & History

2AM is a South Korean ballad boy group formed in 2008, made up of Jo Kwon, Changmin, Seulong, and Jinwoon. Born from the JYP Entertainment survival show Hot Blooded Men, the eleven-member project group One Day was split into two units: the dance-driven 2PM and the vocal-focused 2AM. While their brother group chased choreography, 2AM leaned all the way into raw, emotional storytelling, and that choice defined an entire lane in the K-pop genre.

The quartet debuted on July 11, 2008 on KBS’s Music Bank with their single “This Song,” and quickly became known as one of the premier ballad groups in Korea. Their breakout moment arrived in 2010 with “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die,” a track so powerful it earned them a Digital Daesang at the Golden Disk Awards and cemented their reputation for delivering heart-wrenching vocals over quiet, piano-led arrangements.

2AM’s career wasn’t a straight line. Between 2008 and 2014, they were co-managed by JYP Entertainment and Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE), releasing hits like “You Wouldn’t Answer My Calls,” “Like Crazy,” and “I Wonder If You Hurt Like Me.” After their 2014 album Let’s Talk, the members scattered to different agencies and the group entered a long hiatus, extended further as most members completed mandatory military service.

Seven years later, in November 2021, 2AM staged a much-loved reunion with the EP Ballad 21 F/W, proving their chemistry and vocal power hadn’t faded a bit. Since then, they’ve continued releasing music independently through Culture Depot, including “Though You’re Gone” (2022) and “If You Change Your Mind” (2024), while touring and connecting with the fandom known as I AM.

Today, 2AM stands as a living reference point for K-pop ballad music — proof that four voices and genuine emotion can carry a group across nearly two decades.

“"We wanted to sing about the hour when your true feelings finally come out - that's 2AM."”
