2NE1 (pronounced “to anyone” or “twenty-one”) is one of the most legendary K-pop girl groups to ever grace the stage. Even after years of hiatus, this South Korean girl group still holds a special place in the hearts of fans – the Blackjacks – all over the world. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering them for the first time, there’s so much to love about this powerhouse quartet.

You can’t talk about 2NE1 without talking about the incredible individuals who make the group what it is. Each member brings something completely unique to the table – from powerful rap to soaring vocals, from fierce dance moves to irresistible charm. Let’s meet them!

🎤 CL (Lee Chae-rin) – The Baddest Female

CL is the leader of 2NE1 and one of the most recognizable faces in K-pop history. Known for her fierce rap skills, bold style, and stage presence, she’s often called “The Baddest Female” – and for good reason.

Before joining YG Entertainment, CL trained at JYP Entertainment, one of K-pop’s other Big Three agencies.

She spent a big chunk of her early life living in Japan and France because of her father’s profession – talk about a well-traveled childhood!

CL can speak four languages: Korean, Japanese, English, and French.

She calls herself a total “clean freak” and was the one who kept the 2NE1 dorm tidy.

One of her biggest inspirations is Lil Kim – she’s always dreamed of making it as a rapper on the international stage.

In Japan, fans affectionately nicknamed her “Pig-Rabbit” – a combination of two animals she resembles (in the cutest way!).

She can dance ballet and jazz – proving she’s not just a rapper, but a well-rounded performer.

CL wrote the rap verses for G-Dragon’s “The Leaders”, showing off her songwriting chops early on.

In 2014, she kicked off her US solo career and went on to complete her first solo tour in America in 2016.

Her favorite colors are black, brown, and white – very much in line with her signature edgy aesthetic.

🌸 Sandara Park (Dara) – The Eternal Beauty

Sandara Park, known simply as Dara, is the visual of the group and one of the most beloved celebrities not just in South Korea, but across Southeast Asia – especially in the Philippines.

Dara was born in Busan, South Korea, but moved to the Philippines at age 10 – where she became a massive pop star before ever joining 2NE1.

Her name is inspired by Korean general Kim Yushin’s childhood name, “San Sa Ra” – pretty unique for a K-pop idol!

She speaks four languages: Korean, Tagalog, English, and Japanese.

Before 2NE1, she was famously known as the “BoA of the Philippines” due to her huge popularity there.

Dara is a total math and physics whiz – she consistently excelled in those subjects at school.

She and former groupmate CL once collaborated on a pre-debut song called “Kiss.”

CL literally saved her life during an earthquake in Japan – CL even said she’d rather die young than lose Sandara.

She was officially invited to join YG in 2007 after Yang Hyun-suk saw her on the KBS documentary, “My Name Is Sandara Park.”

Dara’s favorite color is pink – no surprise for the group’s softest and most cheerful member!

Her brother is Park Sang Hyun (Cheon Dung), a former member of the Korean boy band MBLAQ – talent runs in the family!

🎶 Park Bom – The Voice of 2NE1

Park Bom is the group’s main vocalist, famous for her incredibly distinctive voice that can go from sweet and emotional to powerful and piercing in the same breath. Her vocal range is truly something else.

Bom was rejected multiple times by YG Entertainment before finally getting a chance to debut – persistence really pays off!

She studied at Lesley University in Boston, USA, where she majored in music technology, before returning to Korea to pursue her singing dream.

Bom can play three musical instruments: piano, flute, and cello.

Her debut single “You and I” (2010) became one of the most downloaded songs in South Korea that year.

Bom is a massive corn lover – so much so that fans and fellow members often joke about it. Corn is basically her personal mascot.

She’s known for having a very unique fashion sense, often mixing cute and quirky styles that are totally her own.

Bom appeared in 2NE1’s iconic “I Don’t Care” music video, which won Song of the Year at the 2009 MAMA Awards.

She has collaborated with 2NE1 member Dara and solo artists throughout her career since the group’s hiatus.

Despite being turned away at first, Bom’s persistence led to her debuting with what became one of the best-selling K-pop groups of the second generation.

Fans love calling her “Baby Bom” for her eternally youthful looks – she seems to defy aging entirely.

💃 Minzy – The Dancing Queen

Minzy (Gong Minji) is the group’s maknae (youngest member) and its undisputed main dancer. She was discovered after someone uploaded a dance audition video of her on the internet – true proof of what raw talent can do in the digital age.

She trained at YG for a whopping 5 years before finally debuting with 2NE1 in 2009.

She is the granddaughter of the famous Korean traditional dancer Gong Ok-jin – so dance is literally in her blood.

Minzy’s family name is a little unusual: her father’s surname is Lee, but she uses her mother’s surname, Gong, as her stage surname before marriage.

She’s a passionate photography enthusiast and has expressed dreams of becoming a professional photographer someday.

She’s a huge fan of Black Eyed Peas and has cited them as one of her musical inspirations.

In October 2020, Minzy launched her own talent agency called MZ Entertainment, stepping into the business side of the industry.

Minzy left 2NE1 in April 2016, meaning she was not able to participate in the group’s farewell song “Goodbye” – but she reunited with her bandmates for the 2024 Welcome Back Tour, making Blackjacks everywhere emotional.
