Acid Angel from Asia

Acid Angel from Asia (abbreviated AAA) is the very first sub-unit of the 24-member South Korean girl group tripleS, formed by the innovative agency MODHAUS. Made up of members YooYeon, NaKyoung, YuBin, and HyeRin, the quartet was born out of MODHAUS’s groundbreaking “fan-participation” system, where the group’s own fandom decides key creative choices through a blockchain-based voting platform called Cosmo.

The unit’s formation traces back to September 16, 2022, when MODHAUS launched tripleS’s “First Gravity,” an event named Grand Gravity that split the group’s first eight revealed members into two four-member “DIMENSIONs.” Fans voted between September 21 and 25 using COMO tokens collected from digital photocards known as Objekts, ultimately placing YooYeon, NaKyoung, YuBin, and HyeRin into DIMENSION A, officially named Acid Angel from Asia.

AAA made its recording debut on October 28, 2022, with the six-track mini album Access, led by the single “Generation.” The concept leaned into a rebellious, streetwear-clad portrait of contemporary Asian Gen Z youth, trading school uniforms for city nightlife in the “Generation” music video, which surpassed 28 million views within its first month. The physical release of Access was briefly delayed out of respect for the national mourning period following the Itaewon tragedy, eventually arriving on November 9, 2022.

Although MODHAUS set a 100,000-copy sales benchmark for the sub-unit to continue promoting, Access sold roughly 26,000 copies by the end of 2022, falling short of that goal. On November 21, 2022, the unit was formally “dissolved” in the flexible, non-permanent sense unique to tripleS’s system – CEO Jaden Jeong described it as “half yes, half no,” confirming the members would resurface together in the future. True to that promise, all four members went on to headline the collaborative sub-unit Acid Eyes in 2023, joined the full 24-member tripleS in 2024, and reunited again as part of the dance-focused sub-unit Visionary Vision, with the original Acid Angel from Asia lineup returning for anniversary “Event Gravity” performances as recently as October 2025.

Though their run as an active promotional unit was brief, Acid Angel from Asia holds a special place in K-pop history as the first-ever sub-unit born from direct fan voting, and as the opening chapter of tripleS’s uniquely decentralized, fan-driven idol experiment.
