Who Is Baekhyun?

Baekhyun, born Byun Baek-hyun on May 6, 1992, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, is the main vocalist of the K-pop powerhouse EXO and one of the most successful solo artists to come out of the group. Fans and casual listeners alike know him for his soaring, soulful tenor voice, and he’s often called the “Genius Idol” thanks to his effortless mix of vocal skill, stage charisma, and everyday charm.

From Trainee to Center Stage

Baekhyun grew up dreaming of becoming a singer, and that dream pushed him to train hard before he officially joined SM Entertainment in 2011. He debuted with EXO on April 8, 2012, as part of the group’s first mini album “Mama,” quickly standing out as one of its main vocal powerhouses. He later became part of the vocal-driven sub-unit EXO-CBX in 2016, giving fans an even closer look at his vocal range.

A Record-Breaking Solo Career

In July 2019, Baekhyun stepped out as a soloist with his debut EP “City Lights,” led by the single “UN Village.” The album became the best-selling solo release of the 2010s in South Korea. He followed it up with “Delight” (2020) and “Bambi” (2021), both of which crossed the rare one-million-sales mark, making him one of only a handful of Korean solo artists to reach that milestone more than once. He also joined the SM supergroup SuperM as its leader in 2019, bringing his voice to a global stage alongside members of other top SM groups.

Life Beyond the Stage

Outside of music, Baekhyun has built his own fashion label, “Privé by BBH,” acted in popular dramas like “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo,” and even lent his voice to the virtual band HEARTSTEEL. After completing his mandatory military service in 2023, he founded his own company, INB100, to manage his solo career, continuing to release new music such as “Hello, World” (2024) and “Essence of Reverie” (2025).
