Biography
Who Is Chan from iKON?
Chan (찬), born Jung Chan-woo (정찬우), is the sub-vocalist and maknae (youngest member) of the South Korean boy group iKON, now under 143 Entertainment. Known for his mild, distinctive voice, sharp wit, and long career as a child actor before joining iKON, Chan brings a unique blend of entertainment experience to the group.
Early Life and Child Acting Career
Born on January 26, 1998, in Seoul, South Korea, Chan began his entertainment career remarkably early, signing with Kids Planet Entertainment in 2005 and later Fantagio Entertainment in 2010. As a child actor, he appeared as the younger counterpart of TVXQ’s Max Changmin in the music video “Balloons,” and famously portrayed a young Lee Min-ho in the popular dramas Boys Over Flowers and The Heirs, as well as in The Great King Sejong.
Joining iKON
Chan joined YG Entertainment’s trainee program in 2014, notably the only member of iKON’s final lineup who was not originally part of “Team B” on the survival show WIN: Who Is Next. He competed for a spot in the group during the follow-up program Mix & Match, ultimately being selected as the seventh and final member to debut with iKON on September 15, 2015.
Music and Broadcasting Career
Since debuting, Chan has been recognized for his soft yet slightly husky vocal color, contributing sub-vocals across iKON’s discography. In July 2018, he launched his own YouTube channel, “Chanwoosari” (찬우살이), focused on gaming and daily vlogs, quickly earning a Silver Play Button for surpassing 100,000 subscribers within days. He made his solo debut with the single “You” on April 25, 2024, produced by member Bobby, marking a more mature artistic direction.
Military Service and Personal Life
Chan enlisted for mandatory military service on May 27, 2024, and was discharged on November 26, 2025. Outside of music, he is passionate about video games, swimming, and modeling, and is childhood friends with ASTRO’s Moonbin and SF9’s Chani. Known within iKON as playful and quick-witted, he holds the nickname “maknae on top” for his confident, teasing personality despite being the group’s youngest member.
