CLC, short for CrystaL Clear, is a South Korean girl group that debuted under Cube Entertainment on March 19, 2015. Known for genre-bending title tracks like "Hobgoblin," "Black Dress," and "No," CLC built a reputation as one of K-pop's most underrated dance-pop acts. The group's fandom, called Cheshire, has stayed loyal even through years of inactivity. While Cube confirmed in 2022 that the group's official promotions had ended, members have repeatedly said CLC never truly disbanded - and in 2026, several original members are reuniting for special anniversary concerts.
Their Story
CLC was formed by Cube Entertainment and first appeared publicly even before their official debut, performing as back-up dancers for label-mate G.NA in 2014 and holding street performances to raise money for children with disabilities. The original five-member lineup – Seunghee, Yujin, Seungyeon, Sorn, and Yeeun – debuted on March 19, 2015, with the EP “First Love” and its lead single “Pepe,” a retro dance track. A digital single, “Eighteen,” and a second EP, “Question,” followed shortly after, and the group toured Malaysia in late 2015 for their first overseas promotion.
The group’s lineup expanded to seven members on February 29, 2016, when Elkie Chong and Kwon Eunbin joined for the EP “Refresh” and its title track “High Heels.” Eunbin, however, was unable to promote immediately because she was competing on Mnet’s “Produce 101” at the time. CLC also launched a Japanese arm of their career that same year, debuting in Japan and later breaking into the Top 10 of the Oricon Daily Albums Chart with their second Japanese EP, “Chamisma.”
2017 marked a turning point in CLC’s sound and image. Their fifth EP, “Crystyle,” introduced a harder, hip-hop-influenced concept with the EDM/trap single “Hobgoblin,” co-written by HyunA, and the album debuted at number 6 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. The follow-up EP, “Free’sm,” pulled inspiration from 1990s girl groups like Fin.K.L and S.E.S, showing the group’s range.
CLC continued releasing music through 2018 and 2019, with “Black Dress,” “No.1,” and the digital singles “Me” and “Devil” earning praise for sharp choreography and confident vocal work. “Me” and “Devil” both charted on Billboard’s US World Digital Songs chart in early 2020. Their final release as a full group, the single “Helicopter,” arrived on September 2, 2020, co-written by member Yeeun.
From late 2020 onward, member departures slowed the group’s momentum. Elkie left Cube Entertainment in February 2021 after requesting contract termination, citing reduced support for the group. Yujin publicly discussed the group’s uncertain status while competing on Mnet’s “Girls Planet 999” later that year (she would go on to debut with Kep1er). Seungyeon and Yeeun departed Cube in early 2022, and on May 20, 2022, Cube Entertainment formally announced that CLC’s “official activities” had ended, shutting down the group’s fan club platform shortly after.
Despite this, the group was never declared legally disbanded. In March 2023, Sorn clarified during a livestream that CLC “did not disband,” explaining that members had simply scattered to different companies and projects. Over the following years, members continued pursuing solo music, acting, and modeling. In May 2026, the group confirmed they would reunite to mark their 11th anniversary with concerts titled “After All” in Taiwan and Hong Kong, though Yujin will be absent due to her ongoing commitments with Kep1er. Around the same time, Eunbin’s contract with Cube Entertainment concluded, with reports suggesting she may step back from the entertainment industry.
