Daesung

Daesung (BIGBANG), born Kang Dae-sung on April 26, 1989, is the lead vocalist and maknae (youngest member) of BIGBANG, celebrated for his powerful vocal range and his warm, ever-present smile that earned him the nickname “Smiling Angel.” In Japan, he performs under the solo stage name D-Lite, where he’s built one of the most successful solo careers of any Korean idol.

Daesung auditioned for YG Entertainment and was chosen as the third member of BIGBANG’s original lineup, joining G-Dragon and Taeyang. When BIGBANG debuted in 2006, his rich, powerful voice quickly became one of the group’s defining sounds. He first tried his hand at solo trot music in South Korea with singles like “Look at Me, Gwisoon” (2008), before shifting his solo focus almost entirely to Japan.

That shift paid off enormously. His Japanese albums D’scover (2013) and D’slove (2014) both topped Oricon charts, and the accompanying tours made him the first Korean soloist to draw over 100,000 fans across two consecutive Japanese tours. He continued the streak with D-Day (2017), performing to more than 150,000 fans on his first Japanese dome tour, and has kept releasing new music through his own label, D-Lable, including the 2025 project D’s WAVE.

Daesung is known for his humor, honesty, and closeness with fans, frequently connecting with VIPs through livestreams and variety show appearances. Alongside G-Dragon and Taeyang, he continues to keep BIGBANG’s legacy alive, proving that even as the group’s lineup has changed, its core spirit endures.
