Dal Shabet (달샤벳), also stylized as Dal★Shabet, is a South Korean girl group under Happy Face Entertainment that debuted on January 3, 2011 with the mini album “Supa Dupa Diva,” earning the distinction of being the very first idol group to debut that year. Formed by hit producer duo E-Tribe, the group built its name on constant concept reinvention, moving fluidly between cute, elegant, and fierce concepts across singles like “Pink Rocket,” “Bling Bling,” “Hit U,” and “Mr. Bang Bang.”
Their Story
Dal Shabet (달샤벳), stylized as Dal★Shabet, is a South Korean girl group formed by hit-making producer duo E-Tribe under Happy Face Entertainment. Debuting on January 3, 2011 with the mini album Supa Dupa Diva, the six-member act — Viki, Serri, Ah Young, Jiyul, Kaeun, and Subin — became the very first idol group to debut that year, instantly grabbing attention with their playful “Dal★” concept and candy-colored visuals.
Over the following years, Dal Shabet built a reputation for reinventing themselves with nearly every comeback. Pink Rocket and Bling Bling leaned into elegant, feminine concepts, while Hit U pushed the group toward a darker, fiercer image that earned them their first number-one album on the Gaon physical chart. In 2012, founding member Viki departed to pursue an acting career and was replaced by Woohee, with Serri stepping up as the group’s new leader. That same year, Dal Shabet released their first full-length studio album, Bang Bang, led by the title track “Mr. Bang Bang.”
The group continued to chart hits throughout the mid-2010s with releases like Have, Don’t Have, Be Ambitious (which sparked a brief but high-profile lyrics controversy), B.B.B, and the swing-jazz influenced Joker Is Alive. They also expanded into Japan in November 2015, debuting with the single “Hard 2 Love” alongside the compilation album The Best. Following the departures of Jiyul and Kaeun at the end of 2015, Dal Shabet promoted as a four-piece for Naturalness (2016) and Fri. Sat. Sun (2016).
Between 2017 and 2018, the remaining members’ contracts with Happy Face Entertainment expired one by one, and group promotions quietly paused — though the agency was careful to note the group had not officially disbanded. The bond between the members endured: in September 2019, all six original members reunited for an eighth-anniversary photo exhibition and mini-concert titled “Be Ambitious,” and in August 2025, four members took the stage together again at the CassCool Festival, delighting longtime fans known as Darling.
Though never one of K-pop’s biggest commercial juggernauts, Dal Shabet is fondly remembered for its versatility, its string of addictive “girl-crush-meets-cute” title tracks, and the genuine camaraderie its members have continued to show each other long after their spotlight dimmed.
