Story

Biography

Kim Se-jeong (김세정), known professionally simply as Sejeong, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actress under Jellyfish Entertainment. Born on August 28, 1996, in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, she first captured national attention as the runner-up on Mnet’s smash-hit survival show Produce 101 in 2016, which led to her debut in the eleven-member project girl group I.O.I. Even while I.O.I was promoting, Kim also joined Jellyfish Entertainment’s own girl group Gugudan, effectively juggling two active groups at once during her early career.

After I.O.I disbanded in 2017 and Gugudan went on hiatus in 2020, Kim built a striking career as a solo singer-songwriter, releasing self-composed EPs such as Plant (2020) and I’m (2021), and eventually her first full-length album, Door, in 2023. Alongside music, she has become one of Korea’s most in-demand young actresses, headlining hit dramas including School 2017, The Uncanny Counter, Business Proposal, Brewing Love, and Moon River. Her performance in Business Proposal alongside Ahn Hyo-seop turned into one of the most-watched Korean dramas of 2022, both on terrestrial TV and Netflix.

Nicknamed “God Sejeong” for her consistent top rankings throughout Produce 101, Kim is widely admired for her powerful, emotive vocals, easygoing charm, and surprising athleticism — she holds multiple gold-medal records from the Idol Star Athletics Championships. She continues to balance acting, singing, and musical theatre, cementing her reputation as one of K-pop’s most versatile all-round entertainers.
