Seulgi, born Kang Seul-gi on February 10, 1994, in Ansan, South Korea, is the main dancer and lead vocalist of Red Velvet. Ask any fan who the group’s strongest all-rounder is, and Seulgi’s name comes up almost every time – she can dance with razor-sharp precision, sing with real power, and still bring warmth and humor to every variety show she appears on.

Seulgi has one of the longest trainee histories in Red Velvet: she auditioned for SM Entertainment in 2006 and began training in 2007, spending seven years preparing before her debut. She was one of the very first trainees introduced through SM Rookies in December 2013, alongside future NCT members Taeyong and Jeno. On August 1, 2014, she debuted with Red Velvet, representing the color yellow.

From Subunit to Supergroup

In July 2020, Seulgi partnered with member Irene to form Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi, the group’s first subunit, debuting with the EP Monster. Two years later, she joined SM’s rotating female supergroup GOT the Beat, further cementing her reputation as one of the agency’s most versatile performers.

Solo Debut: 28 Reasons

Seulgi struck out as a soloist on October 4, 2022, with her debut EP 28 Reasons, which explored themes of duality between good and evil.
