Story

Biography

Early Life: Yoon Jeong-han was born on October 4, 1995, in Hwaseong, South Korea, and has a younger sister. He attended Hyangnam High School, graduating in 2014 as a natural science major, and later pursued higher education focused on the music industry — enrolling in a master’s program at Anyang University in 2022, majoring in K-pop and business administration under the Department of Applied Music.

Trainee Years: Jeonghan’s path into K-pop began almost by accident: a Pledis Entertainment talent scout discovered him at a subway station. After passing auditions, he officially joined the agency in 2013 and trained for roughly two years. During this period, he appeared regularly on Seventeen TV, an online reality series streamed on Ustream that introduced Pledis trainees to the public as future members of the then-upcoming group SEVENTEEN. The show featured trainees rehearsing choreography, singing, and playing games together, alongside appearances at Like Seventeen concerts.

Debut with SEVENTEEN: On May 26, 2015, Jeonghan officially debuted as a member of SEVENTEEN with the group’s first mini-album 17 Carat. As part of the Vocal Team, he quickly became known for his sweet, emotive tone and his versatility across ballads and upbeat title tracks alike.

Solo & Collaborative Work: In September 2021, Jeonghan released a self-written and self-produced digital single titled “Dream,” issued in both Korean and Japanese versions, in collaboration with regular SEVENTEEN producer Prismfilter. In March 2022, he contributed a cover of Japanese artist Mosawo’s “Aitai” as part of SEVENTEEN’s ongoing #17Studio series. That same year, he became a presenter on Tokyo FM’s School of Lock radio program, a role he held until December 2023, when bandmate Dino took over.

Injuries & Recovery: Jeonghan has faced a couple of physical setbacks during his career. In mid-2022 he underwent surgery for an elbow injury but continued participating in the Be the Sun World Tour while wearing a protective cast and brace. In December 2023, Pledis announced he required ankle surgery, forcing him to step back from the Follow Tour and other scheduled activities; he returned to full group promotions in March 2024 after his recovery.

Reality TV & Fashion: In 2023, Jeonghan and fellow member Dino joined the MBC every1 reality show Magic Lamp, filmed in Montpellier, France, alongside other celebrity guests. Off-stage, Jeonghan has become a familiar face in high fashion: he’s attended multiple Yves Saint Laurent shows at Paris Fashion Week, appeared in pictorials for GQ Korea, Elle Korea, and Man Noblesse, and became a brand ambassador for Acqua di Parma (June 2024) and Korean eyewear label Speculum (August 2024, alongside member The8).

JxW Sub-unit Debut: On May 19, 2024, Pledis unveiled SEVENTEEN’s second official sub-unit — JxW (Jeonghan X Wonwoo) — following BSS. The duo debuted on June 17, 2024, with the single album This Man, which set the first-week and first-day sales records for a K-pop sub-unit release at the time.

Military Service & Return: In August 2024, Pledis confirmed Jeonghan would sit out the Right Here World Tour to begin his mandatory military service. He officially enlisted as a social worker on September 26, 2024. After nearly two years of service, Jeonghan completed his military duty on June 25, 2026, making him the first of SEVENTEEN’s 13 members to be discharged, ahead of members like Wonwoo (still serving as a public service worker) and Hoshi and Woozi (serving active duty).
