Their Story
SEVENTEEN (세븐틴, stylized in all caps, abbreviated SVT) is a thirteen-member South Korean boy group under Pledis Entertainment, a label operating under HYBE. Debuting on May 26, 2015 with the EP 17 Carat, SEVENTEEN is one of the defining acts of K-pop’s third generation and is best known as a fully self-producing idol group: the members write, compose, and choreograph much of their own material, organized internally into a Hip-Hop Unit, Vocal Unit, and Performance Unit.
The group’s name reflects the combination of thirteen members, three sub-unit teams, and one group — thirteen plus three plus one equaling seventeen. SEVENTEEN consists of S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino.
Since their debut, SEVENTEEN has released five studio albums — Love & Letter, Teen, Age, An Ode, Face the Sun, and Happy Burstday — all of which topped South Korea’s Circle (formerly Gaon) Album Chart, alongside more than a dozen extended plays. Their 2023 EPs FML and Seventeenth Heaven both set records for best-selling albums in South Korean history, with FML named the best-selling album worldwide for 2023 by the IFPI. The group’s first Korean-language chart-topping single was 2023’s “God of Music,” followed by further number-one hits including “Maestro,” “Love, Money, Fame” (featuring DJ Khaled), and “Thunder.”
SEVENTEEN’s fandom is called CARAT, named after the group’s debut album and the unit of measurement for a gemstone’s mass — symbolizing how the fans make the group shine. In 2024, SEVENTEEN was named UNESCO’s first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, pledging US$1 million toward global youth education initiatives. The group continues to be one of the highest-selling and most decorated acts in modern K-pop, celebrated for their musicianship, elaborate choreography, and hands-on creative control over their artistry.
