Their Story
Red Velvet is a South Korean girl group formed and managed by SM Entertainment. The group debuted on August 1, 2014, with the digital single “Happiness,” originally as a four-member act consisting of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy. A fifth member, Yeri, joined in March 2015 alongside the release of the group’s chart-topping first EP, Ice Cream Cake. The group’s name itself doubles as a mission statement: “Red” represents a vivid, bold, playful pop sound, while “Velvet” reflects a smoother, more mature R&B and ballad-influenced side – a dual identity the group has maintained across more than a decade of releases.
Red Velvet’s “Red” concept produced some of the most recognizable pop songs of K-pop’s third generation, including “Dumb Dumb,” “Russian Roulette,” “Rookie,” and the Gaon Digital Chart-topping “Red Flavor,” a summer anthem still considered one of the genre’s defining singles. On the “Velvet” side, songs like “Be Natural,” “One of These Nights,” and “Bad Boy” showcased the group’s vocal depth and more restrained, sophisticated production. This willingness to alternate – sometimes within the same era – between maximalist pop and understated R&B set Red Velvet apart from many of their girl-group peers and earned them a reputation as one of the most musically ambitious acts in the industry.
The group’s Korean discography includes four studio albums – The Red, Perfect Velvet, Chill Kill, and reissue The Perfect Red Velvet – alongside sixteen extended plays, nearly all of which topped the South Korean Circle (Gaon) Album Chart. Red Velvet also built a significant international following, with four albums reaching No.1 on the Billboard World Albums chart, more than any other K-pop girl group at the time each was achieved, and a fan base recognized for extremely fast ticket sell-outs, including a concert that sold out in just 0.81 seconds. Sub-unit “Irene & Seulgi” released the acclaimed mini album Monster in 2020, further showcasing the group’s individual talents.
In April 2025, members Wendy and Yeri departed SM Entertainment, though both have continued participating in Red Velvet’s group activities under new arrangements. The group celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2024 with the fan song “Sweet Dreams” and a dedicated fancon tour, and continued into 2026 with new music including the mini album Velvet Summer. Known to their devoted fandom as ReVeluv, Red Velvet remains one of SM Entertainment’s flagship acts and a benchmark for vocal-driven, concept-forward K-pop.

The Fandom
Everything that makes Red Velvet's fandom unique — from their name to their official light stick.
ReVeluv is the official fandom name of Red Velvet, combining the group's name with the word "love" to reflect the close, devoted bond between the group and its fans. Known for extraordinarily fast ticket sell-outs and passionate global support, ReVeluv has followed Red Velvet through lineup changes, contract shifts, and more than a decade of alternating between the group's bold "Red" and understated "Velvet" musical identities.
Red Velvet's official light stick is nicknamed the Kimmam Bong, an abbreviation of "kimchi mandu eungwonbong" (kimchi dumpling light stick), inspired by its rounded shape. Finished in pearl white with pastel coral accents, the light stick forms the number 5 when inverted, representing the group's five members, and combines with other units to form the ReVeluv logo.
