Sion

Sion, born Oh Si-on (오시온) on May 11, 2002, in Mokpo, South Korea, is the leader and lead vocalist of NCT Wish, the sixth and youngest sub-unit of the South Korean boy group NCT under SM Entertainment. As the oldest member and formal leader of a group built primarily to promote in Japan, Sion has taken on a steady, big-brother role since the team’s earliest pre-debut days.

Early Life and Trainee Journey

Sion grew up in the coastal city of Mokpo, which he has described fondly as a place with beautiful beaches, and comes from a family with a younger sister. He attended Mokpo Aehyang Middle School and later Mokpo Mariahoe High School before transferring and completing his studies at Seoul Sejong High School. He was cast by SM Entertainment and trained for around four to five years as an SM Rookie, developing his vocal tone and a powerful, precise dance style ahead of debut.

NCT Universe: LASTART and Formation of NCT Wish

Sion was formally introduced to the public as a future NCT member and SM Rookies trainee on June 28, 2023, alongside labelmate Yushi. He went on to appear as a contestant on the survival program NCT Universe: LASTART, which determined the final line-up of what would become NCT’s new Japan-based unit. The group released the pre-debut single “Hands Up” on October 19, 2023, under the working name NCT New Team, before the official unit name, NCT Wish, was revealed in January 2024.

Debut as NCT Wish’s Leader

NCT Wish — consisting of Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya — officially debuted on February 21, 2024, with the single “Wish,” released simultaneously in Japanese and Korean versions. As the group’s leader, Sion has guided the team through a rapid string of releases, including “Songbird,” “Dunk Shot,” the EP Steady and the mini album Wishful in their debut year, followed by Poppop, Color and Wishlist in the years since, along with the group’s first concert tour, “Into the Wish: Our Wish.”

Described by choreographers and members alike as a quick study who is calm, rational and quietly funny once comfortable, Sion has said his motto is to be someone who grows a little more every day than the day before. He is known for a rich, mid-low vocal tone that complements NCT Wish’s brighter vocal lines, and off stage he enjoys reading, discovering new music, watching anime and dramas, and playing bowling. Fans and members alike often point to Sion as the steady, dependable center that anchors NCT Wish’s youthful energy.
