Somi

Jeon Somi (전소미), born Ennik Somi Douma, is a South Korean-Canadian-Dutch singer, songwriter, rapper, and dancer currently signed to The Black Label. Born on March 9, 2001, in Windsor, Ontario, to a South Korean mother and a Dutch-Canadian father, Somi moved to Seoul as an infant and grew up training in Taekwondo, eventually earning a fourth-degree black belt. She first rose to national fame as the first-place winner of Mnet’s Produce 101 in 2016, debuting alongside her castmates in the project girl group I.O.I.

After I.O.I’s activities concluded, Somi left JYP Entertainment and signed with The Black Label, YG Entertainment’s subsidiary led by producer Teddy Park. She made her solo debut on June 13, 2019, with the single “Birthday,” and has since built a distinctive catalog of dance-pop and R&B releases, including the hit singles “What You Waiting For,” “Dumb Dumb,” and “Fast Forward.” Her 2021 debut studio album XOXO and 2023 EP Game Plan further cemented her as one of K-pop’s most consistent soloists, and she also holds a representation deal with Interscope Records for activities outside Asia.

Known for her playful, colorful concepts and confident stage presence, Somi has become a sought-after brand ambassador for global names like Converse, The North Face, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. She has also hosted major ceremonies including the MAMA Awards. Balancing her multicultural identity, martial arts background, and songwriting talent, Jeon Somi remains one of the standout soloists to emerge from the Produce 101 generation.
