Biography

Who Is Taehyun?

Taehyun, born Kang Tae-hyun, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and the main vocal pillar of the fourth-generation K-pop boy group TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT). Born on February 5, 2002, in Seoul, South Korea, Taehyun was revealed as the fourth member of TXT on January 17, 2019, after three years of training under Big Hit Entertainment (now Big Hit Music, part of HYBE Labels). He officially debuted with the rest of the group on March 4, 2019, through the EP The Dream Chapter: Star.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Growing up in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Taehyun was a child model who appeared in advertisements and educational videos before pursuing a career in music. He attended Hanlim Multi Art School, majoring in Applied Music, where he sharpened his vocal and songwriting skills alongside other aspiring idols.

Rise as TXT’s Vocalist and Songwriter

Known for his clean, stable vocals and analytical mindset, Taehyun quickly became one of the most reliable voices in TXT’s lineup. He made his songwriting debut in 2020 on the track “Maze in the Mirror” from The Dream Chapter: Eternity, and has since contributed lyrics and composition credits to numerous songs in the group’s catalog. In 2021, he co-hosted the EBS radio show Listen alongside fellow member Hueningkai, and in 2022 he was featured on Salem Ilese’s single “PS5” together with bandmate Yeonjun and DJ Alan Walker.

Solo Ventures and Collaborations

Taehyun has steadily expanded his individual presence outside of TXT. In December 2023, he began hosting his first solo web variety show, Academy Reincarnation, followed by a second show, Terrificent Terry, in 2025. He collaborated with Japanese artist Tomohisa Yamashita on “Perfect Storm” (2024), released the duet single “Can’t Stop” and “Surfing in the Moonlight” with Hueningkai for Korean drama and Netflix soundtracks, and featured alongside LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon on JVKE’s single “Butterflies” (2025).

Personality and Public Image

Taehyun is widely recognized for his logical, composed demeanor, sharp sense of style, and dedication to his craft. He is also known for his philanthropy, donating tens of millions of won to charity on his birthday in both 2024 and 2025. In December 2024, he became a Guinness World Record holder as part of the world’s longest line of people consecutively catching a kendama ball, achieved during the 75th Kōhaku Uta Gassen in Tokyo.

Legacy

As a core member of TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Taehyun has helped the group become one of the leading acts of K-pop’s fourth generation, contributing to record-breaking chart debuts, sold-out world tours, and a growing catalog of self-produced music that showcases his evolving artistry as both a vocalist and a songwriter.
