Born on April 11, 2007, in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, she trained for several years before a temporary health-related setback delayed her debut. She returned to complete the group's lineup in April 2024 and has since become one of BABYMONSTER's most recognizable all-around performers, praised for her vocal power, rap delivery, and stage presence.
Story

Biography

Ahyeon was born Jung Ahyeon on April 11, 2007, in Toegye-dong (also recorded as Mancheon-ri, Dong-myeon), Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea. She grew up with her parents and a younger brother. As a child, she attended the Ara Dance Academy in Chuncheon, where she began preparing for entertainment auditions. She passed the first round of auditions at Banana Culture Entertainment’s academy in 2017, then auditioned at both YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment in 2018, ultimately joining YG Entertainment that same year.

She trained at YG for roughly six years before her debut. During her trainee period, she was regarded internally as a top prospect and was viewed as a potential leader for the company’s next girl group. She appeared on the YG survival program Last Evaluation, where her singing, rapping, and dancing consistently drew strong reactions from trainers — after a notable solo stage during the show, she was praised for delivering what was described as a “power show that can be performed using a human voice.”

In December 2022, YG teased the debut of a new girl group, which was confirmed as BABYMONSTER in January 2023. Ahyeon was the second member officially revealed to the public, on January 16, 2023. However, just before the group’s planned debut, YG Entertainment announced on November 15, 2023, that Ahyeon would not participate in BABYMONSTER’s debut due to health issues, though she remained an official member. The group went on to debut as a six-member act with the digital single “BATTER UP” on November 27, 2023.

On January 24–25, 2024, YG confirmed that Ahyeon had recovered and would rejoin the group for their upcoming mini album. She officially debuted with the complete seven-member lineup on April 1, 2024, with the EP BABYMONS7ER and its title track “SHEESH.” In the group’s final pre-debut ranking announcement, Ahyeon ranked #1 among the members.

Since debut, Ahyeon has been central to BABYMONSTER’s biggest viral moments, including a widely circulated cover performance that drew international attention — even prompting a reaction from the original artist. She continued promoting with the group through their first full album DRIP (2024), world tour HELLO MONSTERS (2025), and into 2026 with the mini album CHOOM and digital single “SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA.” She is currently a student at Hanlim Multi Art School, and in November 2025 it was reported she would not be taking the 2026 College Scholastic Ability Test despite being a senior, choosing to focus on her group activities instead.
