Who Is Jaeyoon?

Jaeyoon, born Lee Jae-yoon on August 9, 1994, is a lead vocalist of the South Korean boy group SF9 under FNC Entertainment. With a warm, honey-toned voice fans nickname “honey voice,” a sunny personality, and a distinctive Busan accent, Jaeyoon has become one of the members most associated with SF9’s softer, more emotional vocal moments.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Jaeyoon was born and raised in Nam-gu, Busan, spending part of his childhood in the countryside, which is why he’s often joked about being able to tell poisonous plants and animals apart from harmless ones. He later graduated from the Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts, developing his performance skills before joining FNC Entertainment as a trainee.

Debut and Career With SF9

Jaeyoon debuted with SF9 on October 5, 2016, through the single album “Feeling Sensation,” quickly becoming known for his soft, sweet vocal tone. He has lent his voice to several drama soundtracks over the years, including tracks for “Descendants of the Sun” style OST collaborations and “My Only Love Song,” in addition to his main group discography. In February 2023, FNC Entertainment announced Jaeyoon would begin mandatory military service on March 21, 2023, temporarily stepping away from SF9’s promotions for albums like “Sequence.” He was discharged on September 20, 2024, and made an emotional return in time for the “Fantasy” EP, with members crediting him for lifting everyone’s spirits back in the practice room.

Personality and Everyday Life

Jaeyoon is often described as a natural jokester with a bright, easygoing personality. His hobbies include watching movies, exercising, trying new snacks, playing the piano, and surfing. He’s also known to be afraid of heights despite his adventurous streak, and he has a soft spot for bread, coffee, and chocolate. His Busan dialect, or “satoori,” often slips out during interviews and variety shows, which fans find endearing.

Fun Fact

During an early SF9 profile segment, when asked what he considered his best physical feature, Jaeyoon jokingly answered that it was his own backside, a moment fans still bring up fondly years later.
