Ryujin is the main rapper, lead dancer, and center of the South Korean girl group ITZY under JYP Entertainment. Born Shin Ryu-jin on April 17, 2001, in Seoul, she was scouted by JYP at a Got7 fan meeting while still in middle school and trained for four years before ITZY's 2019 debut. Before joining the group, she gained early attention placing first among female contestants on JTBC's "Mix Nine" and appearing in BTS's "Love Yourself" highlight reel. As ITZY's center, Ryujin is celebrated for her powerful rap delivery, sharp choreography, and confident, tomboyish charisma, co-writing tracks such as the group's debut single "Dalla Dalla." She has since branched into fashion and film, walking for Gucci, fronting campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford Beauty, and landing her first major acting role in the upcoming thriller "Night on Earth." Whether she's leading ITZY's performances or exploring solo projects like her 2023 track "Run Away," Ryujin continues to embody the group's self-assured, no-apologies spirit both on stage and off.
Story

Biography

Ryujin is the main rapper, lead dancer, and center of ITZY, the South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment. If ITZY’s “teen crush” concept needed a face, Ryujin’s confident stage energy is exactly it. Born Shin Ryu-jin on April 17, 2001, in Seoul, she was scouted at a Got7 fan meeting while still in middle school — proof that sometimes the biggest opportunities show up in the most ordinary places.

Early Life and Pre-Debut Career

Before ITZY even existed, Ryujin was already turning heads. She placed first among female contestants on JTBC’s survival show “Mix Nine,” appeared in BTS‘s “Love Yourself” highlight reel with J-Hope and Jimin, and even had a small role in the 2017 film “The King.” She trained with JYP Entertainment for four years, studying practical dance at Hanlim Multi Art School alongside groupmate Chaeryeong.

Debut and Life as ITZY’s Center

Ryujin debuted with ITZY on February 12, 2019, and quickly stood out as the group’s center — the performer whose sharp rap delivery and commanding dance skills anchor the choreography. She’s also credited as a co-writer on tracks including the group’s breakout debut single “Dalla Dalla,” showing early on that her talents went beyond performance.

Fashion, Film, and Solo Work

Off stage, Ryujin has become a genuine style icon, walking for Gucci at Gyeongbokgung Palace and fronting campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford Beauty. In December 2023, she released her first solo track, “Run Away,” and she’s now expanding into acting with a role in the upcoming thriller “Night on Earth.”

Looking for the member who brings ITZY’s fearless energy to life? Ryujin’s journey from a scouted trainee to the group’s charismatic center — and now a rising name in fashion and film — makes her one of the most exciting idols to watch.
