GOT7 is a seven-member South Korean-based boy group formed by JYP Entertainment, known for its multinational lineup and years of chart success across Asia. Debuting on January 16, 2014 with the EP "Got It?," GOT7 built its identity on multinational representation, martial-arts-inspired choreography, and an unusually tight bond among its seven members: Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom.

Biography & History

GOT7 (갓세번) is a seven-member South Korean boy group formed by JYP Entertainment. The group officially debuted on January 16, 2014 with the mini album Got It?, introducing a multinational lineup that includes members from South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the United States: Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom.

GOT7 stood out early for incorporating martial arts tricking into their choreography, a style built on member Jackson’s background as a competitive fencer and other members’ dance and acrobatics training. The group’s name combines the concept of achievement (“got it”) with the number seven, symbolizing seven lucky members coming together as one act.

The group’s commercial breakthrough came with 2015’s Just Right, followed by If You Do and the 2016 hit “Hard Carry” from the studio album Flight Log: Turbulence, which became one of the biggest domestic hits of GOT7’s career. The Flight Log trilogy, spanning Departure, Turbulence, and Arrival, marked a turning point where the members began contributing directly to songwriting and production for the first time.

GOT7 built an especially strong following across Southeast Asia, driven in part by the popularity of members Mark, Jackson, and BamBam in their respective home regions, and the group toured extensively across Asia, North America, and Europe throughout the mid-to-late 2010s.

In January 2021, GOT7’s contract with JYP Entertainment expired. Rather than disbanding, all seven members announced they would continue as GOT7 while signing individually with different agencies, an unusual arrangement that fans and industry observers pointed to as a rare display of group loyalty. The members released their first post-JYP single, “Encore,” in February 2021, and have continued to release group material and tour together in the years since, alongside expanding solo careers for members like Jackson Wang, Mark Tuan, and Youngjae.

Today, GOT7 is remembered as one of the standout multinational groups of K-pop’s third generation, known for its martial-arts-influenced performance style, its members’ individual global fame, and a fandom, I GOT7 (Ahgase), that has stayed loyal through the group’s transition to independence.

“Come and get it, GOT7! Seven lucky members, one team.”
