Who Is Yugyeom?

Yugyeom is a South Korean singer, dancer, and songwriter best known as the main dancer, lead vocalist, and maknae (youngest member) of the K-pop boy group GOT7. Born Kim Yugyeom on November 17, 1997, in Seoul, he trained for years under JYP Entertainment before debuting with GOT7 in January 2014. Since then, he has grown from the group’s baby-faced youngest member into one of the most respected performers of his generation, admired for his sharp choreography, smoky R&B vocals, and effortless stage presence.

From GOT7’s Maknae to Main Dancer

Yugyeom joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee while still in middle school, drawn in after enrolling at a local dance academy. He first appeared on screen during Mnet’s survival show WIN: Who Is Next, and on January 16, 2014 he officially debuted alongside JAY B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, and BamBam as part of GOT7, JYP’s first boy group since 2PM. Known for their acrobatic, martial-arts-influenced choreography, GOT7 quickly built a global fanbase, and Yugyeom’s dancing became one of the group’s signature strengths — so much so that he later won Mnet’s dance competition show Hit the Stage in 2016.

Beyond performing, Yugyeom developed into a genuine songwriter and producer, contributing lyrics and composition credits to numerous GOT7 tracks starting with “See the Light” in 2016. In 2019 he formed the R&B duo Jus2 with fellow member JAY B, releasing the EP Focus, and he later delivered a memorable disguised performance as “Raspberry Wine” on MBC’s King of Mask Singer.

Solo Career Under AOMG

When GOT7’s contract with JYP Entertainment ended in January 2021, all seven members left the agency while choosing to remain together as GOT7. Yugyeom signed individually with AOMG, the hip-hop and R&B label founded by Jay Park, and reinvented himself as a solo R&B artist. His debut EP Point of View: U (2021) produced the hit duet “I Want U Around” with DeVita, which topped iTunes charts in 35 countries. He followed it with singles like “Take You Down,” “Ponytail,” and “LOLO,” before releasing his first full-length album, Trust Me, in February 2024 — later named among Billboard’s 25 Best K-pop Albums of 2024. His second studio album, Interlunar, arrived in June 2025, further cementing his identity as a mature R&B vocalist distinct from his idol-group roots.

Personal Life & Fun Facts

Outside of music, Yugyeom is known for his warm personality, love of dancing styles like house and krumping, and his black Pomeranian, Dalkyum, who even has his own Instagram account. He is close friends with several fellow K-pop idols born in 1997, and fans often note the contrast between his tall, mature visuals and his playful, affectionate off-stage personality. In 2025, AOMG announced Yugyeom’s enlistment for mandatory military service as part of a military band, marking the next chapter in his career.
