Jinyoung is the lead vocalist and visual of the seven-member K-pop group GOT7, and one of the most recognizable idol-actors to come out of JYP Entertainment's trainee system. Born Park Jin-young on September 22, 1994, in Changwon, South Korea, he first stepped into the spotlight as an actor in Dream High 2 before debuting musically in 2012 as one half of the duo JJ Project alongside Jay B. When GOT7 launched in January 2014, Jinyoung's warm tone and effortless stage presence quickly made him the group's face, earning him the nickname "Mom of GOT7" for how he looks after the other members. Beyond music, Jinyoung has built an equally impressive acting career, with standout roles in He Is Psychometric, When My Love Blooms, The Devil Judge, and both seasons of the hit drama Yumi's Cells. After GOT7's contract with JYP Entertainment expired in 2021, Jinyoung signed with BH Entertainment and kept both careers alive, releasing the solo single Dive that same year. In January 2023 he finally launched his solo music career properly with the mini album Chapter 0: With, a deeply personal, self-written project marking his tenth anniversary as an artist. He completed mandatory military service between 2023 and 2024, returning in time to rejoin GOT7 for their 2025 comeback EP Winter Heptagon. Known for his ISFJ personality, gentle humor, and steady work ethic, Jinyoung remains a fan favorite for balancing idol life, acting, and songwriting with equal sincerity, and Ahgase around the world continue to watch his next chapter closely.
Story

Biography

GOT7‘s Jinyoung has quietly become one of the most well-rounded idols of his generation — a lead vocalist, a working actor, and a songwriter all in one. If you know GOT7, you probably already know his soft, steady voice and that calm, dependable energy the members call being the group’s “mom.” Let’s walk through who Jinyoung really is, from his trainee days to his solo debut.

Who Is Jinyoung?

Born Park Jin-young on September 22, 1994, in Jinhae-gu, Changwon, South Korea, Jinyoung joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee in 2009 after placing first in the company’s open audition alongside his future GOT7 bandmate Jay B. The two debuted first as actors, then as the duo JJ Project in 2012, before finally re-debuting in January 2014 as part of the seven-member group GOT7. As the group’s lead vocalist and visual, Jinyoung quickly stood out for his elegant dance lines and warm, expressive tone.

Life After JYP: Acting, Solo Music, and Growth

When GOT7’s contract with JYP Entertainment ended in January 2021, Jinyoung signed with BH Entertainment and leaned further into acting, landing lead and supporting roles in dramas like The Devil Judge and Yumi’s Cells. Music was never far behind, though — he released the self-composed single “Dive” in 2021, then made his true solo debut with the mini album Chapter 0: With on January 18, 2023. Written entirely by Jinyoung himself, the EP celebrated ten years since his debut and showed off his talents as a genuine singer-songwriter, not just an idol vocalist.

Personality and Fan Connection

Fans and members alike describe Jinyoung as thoughtful, calm, and quietly funny — the kind of person who checks in on everyone without making a big deal of it. His ISFJ personality shows up in how carefully he treats both his group and his solo fans (Ahgase know him for handwritten letters, especially around his 2023 military enlistment). He completed his mandatory service in November 2024 and returned in time to rejoin GOT7 for their 2025 reunion EP, Winter Heptagon.

Whether he’s on stage with GOT7, on screen in a new drama, or writing his own songs as a soloist, Jinyoung keeps proving there’s more than one way to be a lasting idol. Curious what he does next? Ahgase certainly are.
