Mark Tuan is the Taiwanese-American main rapper of K-pop group GOT7, known for blending hip-hop swagger with martial-arts-inspired dance and heartfelt songwriting. Discovered by a JYP Entertainment scout at his Los Angeles high school, Mark trained for years in Seoul before debuting with GOT7 in January 2014, quickly standing out for his calm charisma, sharp visuals and growing skill as a lyricist on tracks like “My Home” and “Let Me.” After GOT7's contract with JYP ended in 2021, Mark signed with Creative Artists Agency to build an independent, global solo career, releasing English-language singles and his debut album The Other Side in 2023, followed by a North American tour. A multilingual artist fluent in English, Korean and Mandarin, Mark has also built a strong presence as a model, content creator and fashion collaborator, working with brands like Sisley and Represent. Despite pursuing individual projects, he remained deeply loyal to his group, reuniting with GOT7 for their emotional Winter Heptagon comeback in 2025 under Kakao Entertainment. Fans know Mark for his down-to-earth personality, love of skateboarding and sneakers, close bond with fellow member Jinyoung, and his journey from a reluctant trainee with no musical background to one of K-pop's most respected rapper-producers. Whether performing with GOT7 or on his own solo stage, Mark Tuan continues to represent resilience, authenticity and the truly global reach of modern K-pop artistry.
Story

Biography

Who Is Mark Tuan?

Mark Tuan is a Taiwanese-American rapper, singer-songwriter and dancer best known as the main rapper of the global K-pop group GOT7. Born in Los Angeles and raised across California, Brazil and Paraguay, Mark brings a genuinely multicultural identity to K-pop, blending American hip-hop influences with the polish of Korean idol training.

Early Life and Trainee Days

Mark had no plans to become an idol. A JYP Entertainment scout spotted him near his school in Arcadia, California, and encouraged him to audition. Backed by his supportive family, he flew to Seoul in 2010 to begin training, learning Korean, dance and vocal technique almost from scratch over roughly three and a half years.

Debut with GOT7

On January 16, 2014, Mark debuted as part of GOT7’s seven-member lineup with the EP Got It?. As the group’s main rapper and a lead dancer, he quickly became known for his martial-arts-inspired choreography, calm stage presence and growing skill as a lyricist, contributing to tracks across GOT7’s Flight Log trilogy and beyond.

Solo Career and Life After JYP

Mark launched his solo path in January 2020 with the digital single “Outta My Head.” When GOT7’s contracts with JYP expired in January 2021, all seven members left the agency together while retaining rights to the GOT7 name. Mark signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) the same year to grow his career internationally, and later released his debut solo album, The Other Side, in 2023, touring North America to support it.

Reuniting with GOT7

Even while pursuing individual music, fashion and content-creation projects, Mark stayed committed to GOT7. In 2025 he reunited with the full group for the Winter Heptagon comeback under Kakao Entertainment, celebrating over a decade together as one of K-pop’s most enduring line-ups.
