Biography
Who Is Mimi from Gugudan?
Mimi, born Jung Mi-mi (정미미) on January 1, 1993, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and actress best known as the vocalist and visual of the Jellyfish Entertainment girl group Gugudan. With her warm tone, easygoing charm, and steady work ethic, Mimi built a career that stretched from idol stages to television dramas, and later into a fresh chapter as a solo singer-songwriter and one half of the married K-pop duo CATtRIEVER. Fans searching for her real name, birthday, Gugudan profile, or her life after the group disbanded will find the full picture below.
Early Life and Trainee Years
Mimi was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up with an older sister, Jung Miran. She attended Hyundai High School before graduating from Daeyoung High School. Long before debuting with Gugudan, she trained at FNC Entertainment, appearing in 2013 on the tvN reality show Cheongdamdong 111 and making a brief cameo in FTISLAND’s “Madly” music video. She also picked up small acting credits during this period, including a 2014 cameo in the LINE TV drama One Sunny Day and a supporting role in KBS2’s Producers in 2015.
Debut with Gugudan (2016)
On June 23, 2016, Mimi was revealed as a member of Gugudan, Jellyfish Entertainment’s first girl group. The nine-member act officially debuted on June 28, 2016 with the mini album Act. 1 The Little Mermaid and its title track “Wonderland.” As the group’s vocalist and visual, Mimi promoted through Gugudan’s fairytale-inspired eras, including Act. 2 Narcissus (2017), Act. 3 Chococo Factory (2017), Act. 4 Cait Sith (2018), and the group’s final mini album, Act. 5 New Action (2018), as well as the Japanese single “Stand By.”
Acting Career
Alongside her idol schedule, Mimi kept building an acting résumé. She made her formal acting debut in 2018 with the web drama I Picked Up A Celebrity On The Street, followed by a role in MBC’s 20th Century Boy and Girl (2017) and a supporting turn in the popular 2019 fantasy drama Extraordinary You, where she played Park Yi-jin. These roles helped her build a following beyond the K-pop fandom and showed a versatile side to her artistry.
Life After Gugudan: Solo Debut and CATtRIEVER
Gugudan quietly went on hiatus after 2018 and was officially disbanded on December 31, 2020. Mimi left Jellyfish Entertainment in 2021 and, after a brief stint with Afarm Entertainment, signed with Badahae Entertainment in January 2022. She made her solo debut on April 22, 2022 with the digital single “Overcome,” a song about resilience and starting over.
In 2023, Mimi and former MBLAQ member Thunder (Park Sang-hyun) revealed they had been dating for four years, and the couple announced plans to marry. Just before their wedding, they debuted as the co-ed duo CATtRIEVER on January 21, 2024 with the single “5/26” — a nod to their wedding date. The pair got married on May 26, 2024, and continued to release music together as a married idol duo, including “Sunflower,” “Wedding Ceremony,” and the anniversary single “Drive.” In 2025, the couple founded their own label, MOOVE LABEL, and Mimi released what the label considers her true solo debut, “Sweetdreams, My Dear,” followed by “Like You Love Me” and, in 2026, “Pop Pink Apple,” as she leaned further into her own R&B-influenced sound.
Personal Life
Mimi is married to singer Thunder, a former member of MBLAQ, making her sister-in-law to 2NE1’s Sandara Park. She is known among fans for nicknames like “Ulissal,” “Yal Mimi,” and “Mimi-jjang,” and represented the number 7 during her time in Gugudan. Off stage, she enjoys watching dramas and reading webtoons, and has been open about continuing to write and produce her own music with her husband.
Quick Facts
From her debut with Gugudan to her new life as a solo artist and married idol, Mimi remains a familiar and well-loved face for longtime K-pop fans who followed her journey from “Wonderland” to “Sweetdreams, My Dear.”
