Who Is Yuna?
Yuna, born Shin Yu-na on December 9, 2003, in Suwon, South Korea, is the lead dancer, lead rapper, sub-vocalist, and visual of ITZY, the JYP Entertainment girl group known for its confident “teen crush” concept. As the group’s maknae, Yuna brings youthful energy, striking visuals, and versatile performance skills to every ITZY release.
Early Life and Trainee Days
Yuna was discovered almost by chance: in 2015, while attending a year-end music festival with her older sister, a JYP Entertainment representative spotted her in the crowd and handed her a business card. She soon became a trainee and, in 2017, appeared in BTS’s “Love Yourself” Highlight Reel as Jungkook’s on-screen partner — a role that introduced her to fans years before her own debut.
Debut With ITZY
After roughly three years of training, Yuna was revealed as a member of ITZY on January 20, 2019, and officially debuted with the group on February 12, 2019, alongside the single album “IT’z Different” and its lead track “Dalla Dalla.” She replaced an earlier planned member of the lineup and quickly became a fan favorite for her charisma and visuals.
Career Highlights
Yuna has promoted through ITZY’s complete discography, from “Guess Who” and “Crazy in Love” through “Checkmate,” “Kill My Doubt,” and “Born to Be.” In February 2022, she graduated from Hanlim Arts School’s practical dance program while continuing full activities with the group.
