Biography

Who is Woozi?

Woozi is the stage name of Lee Ji-hoon, a South Korean singer, composer, and record producer best known as the Vocal Team Leader, lead vocalist, and main in-house producer of the self-producing boy group SEVENTEEN under Pledis Entertainment. Born in Busan on November 22, 1996, Woozi grew up studying classical music, learning the clarinet before an audition brought him into Pledis Entertainment’s trainee system in 2011.

Woozi debuted with SEVENTEEN on May 26, 2015 with the mini album “17 Carat” and quickly became the creative backbone of the group, credited with writing and producing the overwhelming majority of SEVENTEEN’s catalogue — from early hits like “Adore U” and “Mansae” to era-defining title tracks that followed. His work as a composer has extended beyond the group, penning songs for labelmates and other K-pop acts including I.O.I and Ailee.

In 2021, Woozi became the youngest-ever recipient of the Best Producer award at the Asia Artist Awards, a recognition of his growing stature as a hitmaker. He stepped into the spotlight as a soloist on January 3, 2022 with his first mixtape “Ruby,” an English-language, rock-tinged single that topped iTunes charts in nearly twenty countries. He later paid tribute to his late friend Moonbin with the single “What Kind of Future” in 2024, and in 2025 debuted in the special sub-unit Hoshi x Woozi alongside fellow member Hoshi.

Known among CARATs for his short stature paired with an enormous creative talent, Woozi is often called SEVENTEEN’s “genius producer.” He began his mandatory military service in September 2025, continuing to be celebrated as one of the most respected songwriters in modern K-pop.
